PLANTS FOR FLORIDA : Page 892
E. Hedges. For hedge planting there is in Florida a wider rangeof material adapted to such use than is ordinarily found in northerntypes of material. The first group given includes those shrubs whichmake low, compact hedges together with those which develop into alarger and looser type of hedge. Those shrubs which are marked (+)are valuable for hedge planting because of their flowering and fruitingcharacteristics. The remainder are valuable mostly on account of thefoliage effect. The second list of material, which is for northernFlorida, could be greatly enlarged provided it should seem advisableto use material which is often used in hedges planted farther northand which shed their leaves during the winter months. The groupincludes plants which are practically evergreen or which have somevalue for their fruit or flowers. Practically all of these can be usedwith equal success in middle and southern Florida.
