Nursery-grown stock which is grown in the field, as distinguished fromplants grown in pots, in cold frames, or under other especially favour-able and artificial conditions, which tend to make better lookingspecimens, but usually less hardy plants. Thus, field-grown plantsare often more desirable, even though not nearly as good lookingspecimens.
Short-lived or rapidly growing plants temporarily planted betweenpermanent plants as in orchards or in mass plantings.
A shallow box, averaging in depth from three to four inches, to receivesoil in which to plant seeds, or to start cuttings.
A term used in referring to plants which bear flowers on wood grownthat same season. Hence they are mostly late-summer and fall-flowering plants and should be pruned in late winter or early spring be-fore growth begins.
