B. Plants Hardy in the Less Severe Seaside Exposures.Under the less severe conditions of seaside exposure there is a greaterrange of plants which may be used in addition to those shown underGroup A. Most of the material in this part of the list is not adapted foruse in the extreme northern section of the seacoast.
Plate XXVIII. This open allee is framed on either side by a solid rowof closely sheared thorn trees. Its formal lines are softened by the row ofpink flowering dogwoods which add a charm of flowers in early spring and offruit in the late fall. Thorns planted 4 to 5 feet apart and dogwoods 8 feetapart. Width between rows of thorns 22 feet and between rows of dogwoods9 to 10 feet. (See pages 144 and 147, group XVI-D-b)
