VINES : Page 747

Many persons object to the use of certain types of vines such as theVirginia creeper and the ivies, which form a beautiful roosting placefor sparrows immediately opposite sleeping-room windows, and for suchlocations a type of vine similar to the evonymus should be used, whichdoes not provide a shelter for these pests.

LIST OF VINES

The vines included in the groups of this list are respectively valuablefor their ability to produce flowers, for their use on brick and stonemasonry, for foliage effect, for fruiting characteristics, and for theirfast growing characteristics. Certain vines may be included in oneor more groups because of the value of certain characteristics in eachgroup. It should be remembered that the distinction between vines ofdifferent types for different purposes is equally as marked as the differ-ence in shrubs and perennials.
